RETAINING THE HISTORY OF THE KEW POST OFFICE

Located within the original Kew Post Office building, Postmaster Hotel is a landmark site rich with history.

The structure was built in 1851 on the land of the Wurundjeri people, and was first known as the Kew Court House. With beloved Melbourne tramlines on either side of the building, and an entrance marked by the iconic Kew War Memorial, a trip to Kew Junction would not be the same without experiencing this building’s unique history.

Postmaster Hotel is not only the most historic landmark in Kew, but a timeless Victorian Heritage treasure. The building remained a Post Office up until 1995, before undergoing a complete transformation to become the QPO Restaurant. 2020 saw an exciting new shift from QPO to Postmaster Hotel, inspired by the first Postmaster at the Kew Post Office, Mr J.R Jackson.

Postmaster celebrates our proud history with subtle references across our menu, branding and naming of spaces. We are glad to retain the true essence of the original Kew Post Office, with its timeless architectural intricacies and ties to Victorian history.
